Ganesh Chaturthi 2018: Delicious Prasad Recipes To Serve During Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most widely celebrated festivals especially in Maharashtra and Karnataka and many other countries in the world.

Prasad is offered to God first, without tasting it beforehand, as that is considered impure. Once it has been offered, you have to share it with friends and family, enjoying every delicious bite of it. We have made the collection of delicious recipes that you can serve during Ganesh Chaturthi.

How to make Puran Poli:

Puran Poli

Puran Poli is a typical Maharashtrian sweet delicacy made with flour, chana dal, and ghee. This is one of the most delicious dessert recipes that makes the special days more special.
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 40-45 minutes
Servings: 15 Puran Polis


For making the dough you need:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup pure ghee
For the stuffing you need:
  • 1-1/2 cups jaggery (grated)
  • A pinch of nutmeg powder
  • 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
  • A pinch of saffron
  • 1/2 tbsp ghee
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp green cardamom powder


  1. Combine the flour, salt and 2 tbsp of pure ghee.
  2. Mix well and knead by adding water to make a soft and smooth dough.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp muslin cloth and set aside at least for an hour.
  4. Wash the chana dal thoroughly in normal running water and soak for few hours.
  5. Boil by adding a little bit of salt.
  6. Allow to cool completely and grind the boiled dal coarsely.
  7. Melt the ghee in a pan and add dal, jaggery, saffron, cardamom and nutmeg powder.
  8. Mix very well and stir continuously by cooking on medium-high flame.
  9. Cook until dal becomes firm and dry.
  10. Remove from the flame and set aside.
  11. Divide the stuffing into 15 equal portions also divide the prepared dough into the same amount of portions and make small balls.
  12. Take a small ball of the dough, roll out a little bit and flatten with your palm.
  13. Stuff a portion of dal in the center, cover and seal the Puran Poli from all the edges.
  14. Dust the flour and make a round roti of about 4 inches in diameter with medium thickness.
  15. Heat a tawa and drizzle some oil.
  16. Place the Puran Poli and cook on medium-high heat.
  17. Gently flip and cook from the other side as well.
  18. Spread a good amount of pure ghee over the cooked Puran Poli and serve hot.

How to make Ukadiche Modak for Ganesh Chaturthi:


Ukadiche Modak is a sweet delight made with flour, coconut, jaggery, and ghee. This special modak are the best prasad during Ganesh Chaturthi.
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Servings: 10


  • 1-1/2 cups rice flour
  • 3/4 cup jaggery 
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp green cardamom powder
  • 1 cup coconut grated
  • 2 tbsp pure ghee
  • 1/2 tbsp fennel seeds powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds


  1. Melt the ghee in a big pan and add poppy seeds.
  2. Saute for few seconds and add the flours.
  3. Add salt and stir the flours continuously to avoid the lumps.
  4. Bring the milk to a few boils and mix in the flours.
  5. Remove the mixture from the flame, cool completely and knead with the hands to make a smooth dough.
  6. Cover the dough with a moist cloth and set aside.
  7. Heat a vessel and add grated coconut and jaggery.
  8. Mix very well and cook on moderate heat for few minutes.
  9. Add powder of fennel seeds and green cardamoms.
  10. Again mix to prevent the lumps from forming.
  11. Turn the gas off when the coconut mixture looks little golden brown in color.
  12. Divide the prepared dough into 20 equal balls or rounds.
  13. Also, divide the mixture of coconut into 20 portions.
  14. Slightly grease your palms with oil or ghee.
  15. Make appx. 2-1/2 inch round disc from each ball and place a portion of coconut mixture in the center.
  16. Gather all the sides of the rolled out disc and seal the edges at the top to give a modak shape.
  17. You can either steam them in idli steamer for about 15 minutes or you can fry them in hot oil or you can bake them in the oven.
How to make Panchamrut for Ganesh Chaturthi:


  • Milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Honey

  1. Take two large tablespoons of plain yogurt, put into a medium-sized bowl. (The bowl can be a salad or a soup-sized bowl.)
  2. Take two tablespoons of sugar, pour on top of your yogurt.
  3. Take two tablespoons of honey and drizzle over the yogurt and sugar
  4. Take one tablespoon of ghee and place on top of your other ingredients.
  5. Pour enough milk to cover your ingredients and fill the bowl up to one inch from the top.
  6. Stir all ingredients together. Everything will be in chunks. That is okay, just make sure the sugar dissolves.
  7. It is very, very important that you do not taste the Panchamrut before it is offered to God. It is considered spoiled if you do and you will have to start over.
  8. Once your prayer food has been made. Place it in front of God and offer it to him. After prayers are complete you can serve it to yourself and friends. But remember, only in the right hand!
